Warsaw

We arrived in Warsaw on 12th June, and spent the rest of that afternoon and another day there. On the first evening we checked in to New World St. Hostel. If you're after cheap, good location, and really friendly, helpful staff, then this is the place to go!!

We had been told to expect a not-so-pretty city after the destruction of 80% of Warsaw in WWII. But on our first afternoon, we had a wander around Old Town and found some lovely buildings, a gorgeous little square, and a good local restaurant where we sampled Polish dumplings.

On day two, we went to the Warsaw Uprising museum where we learned all about the Polish involvement in WWII and the country's fight to be independent. Then we spent the afternoon in a beautiful park, which was almost hidden away in the middle of the city!

We also sampled the nightlife of Warsaw (photos that we don't want to share with you!), and went out with some of the hostel's staff and other travellers. We had a great night, drinking lemon vodka recommended by the locals - needless to say, we didn't feel so fresh for our early train the next morning!!

Anyway, great first stop on our interrail tour. The weather was lovely, and we were very impressed with Warsaw!!
